There are many methods to finishing a basement. One option is conventional construction. You can pay a contractor to use studs, install fiberglass insulation, and then apply drywall. This project can take as little as four weeks or as long as two months to complete. There are advantages to this method: increased living space, added value to your home, and you can paint or wallpaper to your decorating taste. But, the disadvantages of this method far outweigh the advantages. The loss of the use of the basement during the length of construction, the extremely high potential for future mold and mildew growth, along with the health issues that go along with mold and mildew, and finally you can't even imagine the amount of dust throughout your home. Unfortunately, conventional construction resolves the appearance issue of your basement, but does not solve the issues of mold and your family's health.
Your next option is to use the fiberglass and fabric material wall system. This is quicker installation and less mess than conventional construction, but fiberglass absorbs moisture, resulting in buckled, wrinkled, puckered and discolored fabric panels, not to mention the separation of fiberglass and cloth. And, there are always the airborne glass fibers with this wall system. You can't clean the fabric walls, or hang anything on the walls, the cloth surface is easily damaged, you can't paint the panels, the fabric holds odors, and they can cause foundation walls to sweat which can cause mold growth. In the end, you have a finished product with a high level of limitations. And, any kid can destroy your wall system with very little effort.
Another option is a solid, vinyl coated wall system. It has a quick and easy installation, the walls are strong enough to support a wall mounted TV (weight limit 75 lbs!), it's paintable, and is mold resistant. It also has disadvantages. Like drywall, it is extremely dusty, it has vinyl trim strips between panels and at all joints, there is limited access to electric, plumbing and duct work, and the vinyl wallpaper coating can easily rip or peel. But the biggest disadvantage is that when you are finished with this project, your basement looks like the inside of a house trailer.
When The Basement Tuxedo developed their wall system, they explored all these problems and resolved them. They developed a moisture, water, mold and mildew resistant product that provides a healthy living space. They thought about ease of access for plumbing and wiring. The insulated panels have an energy efficiency rating of R-13, reducing your heating and air conditioning costs. The durable solid surface will withstand many years of daily use without damage. The panels are strong enough for hanging your wall mounted TV. In fact, The Basement Tuxedo has the strongest finishing system on the market today. It is seamless so it will match the construction in the rest of your home. It is paintable so it can match the decor of the rest of your home. There is no dust, dirt or airborne fiberglass. It is easily cleaned. It is completely studless. Its insulation does not prohibit ventilation. It is perfect for stone foundations and those foundations that are less suitable for finishing. And finally, it is quickly installed and an environmentally responsible 100% recyclable product.
In addition to the wall system we offer ceilings, flooring, lights, moldings, and doors. And, remember that we have our own plumbing division to handle your new basement bathroom and wet bar entertainment area.
